Tyler Creek Work / Fishing Trip

May 3, 2008

The members of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited have once again invited Oak Brook TU members to join in a workday on Tyler Creek on Saturday, May 3rd.  The project will be a bank stabilization project in the area near 100th Street.  This is about one mile from the Dolan Nature Area parking lot (shown on the map as the TU parking lot).  The WMTU project is timed to be in conjunction with a Michigan Nature Society garlic mustard pull on the Dolan Area.   Coldwater River Celebration info

We should expect a morning of work along Tyler Creek, and then a gathering for lunch with the other participants at the Freeport community center.

More importantly, the workday should coincide with the height of the Hendrickson hatch on the Coldwater River & Tyler Creek.  Members of WMTU are looking forward to taking us fishing later in the afternoon and evening.  Wild brown trout rising to mayflies…makes your eyes red just thinkin’ about it…

Plan to make a weekend of it.  Tyler Creek is about 15 miles southeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  It is about a 3-˝ hour drive from our area.  There are ample hotels and motels in Grand Rapids.  Also, the Tyler Golf Course has a lodge building that can hold eight people.

There is great trout fishing to be found on the Coldwater River, the Rogue River near Rockford (1/2 hour north), and the Muskegon River near Newaygo (1 hour north).

This is a great opportunity to work once again with a great group of TU members on their home stream, to enjoy good fishing, and make new friends.  Plan to join us.  If you are interested, please contact Marvin Strauch at 708-599-5101 or prez@obtu.org for details.  We need to have a reasonable head count before the workday.
